Lalie is a sweet little thing, measuring 36cms in length. She is cute as can
be in her gorgeous floral dress under her fleecy warm embroidered jacket.
Her matching hat covers her curls. Her ‘shoes’ are painted and trimmed with
a seed bead “button”. She is great for beginners but is cute enough for
everyone to love.

Knitted cardigan for 18" doll |
 |
I found this charming
pattern for a knitted doll's sweater in the May, 1904 issue of 'The
Modern Priscilla'. It features a 'pouch front', made with short rows, to
give the "pigeon-breasted" look that was so fashionable in 1904! The
construction of the sweater is interesting: you knit the back, then
'over the shoulders' and down each front, then pick up and knit the
sleeves. I have adapted the directions for today's knitters, but also
include the original instructions for 'adventurous' knitters (note: the
original instructions are pretty vague!) |

Drawing perfect doll faces This is
the part of doll making that can cause the most anxiety amongst doll
makers, but by following a few simple "rules" you can confidently achieve
a gorgeous face every time....
Stuffing your doll or teddy bear If you are looking for a more traditional look in a
stuffed doll or teddy bear, one that requires a harder pack, then stuffing
such as old-fashioned cotton or kapok, or an even more primitive stuffing of
torn rags or sawdust, bran, rice or lentils may be used....
Fabric Always use good quality, natural fibres in your
doll's construction. Cottons, linens and silks will stand the test of time. They
have good colour retention, are washable, have strength and they are easy to
sew. Making your teddies from mohair will give you an heirloom bear to treasure.
