Appliqué using the freezer paper & glue stick
method is a great way to achieve smooth curves and complex shapes.
You'll need Freezer Paper, scissors, glue stick, a
pencil, a pattern or template, fabric, an iron and needle & thread.
Trace your pattern onto the dull side of the
Freezer Paper. Cut out on the drawn line. Place the shiny side of the
freezer paper onto the wrong side of the fabric and press with a hot, dry
iron.
Cut out the fabric leaving a 1/4" seam allowance
all the way around the freezer paper.
Rub the glue stick close to the edge of the seam
allowance, a little bit of fabric at a time. Using your fingers fold the
fabric over the edge of the freezer paper, work your way around the shape
(clip around all curves to ease the fold )
Pin or lightly glue your shape to the background
fabric. Appliqué the shape to the background using a straw needle and
matching thread. |
